“Helping small-to-medium sized companies in the primary sector to make the leap into digital transformation”

We spoke with José Senande, CEO of oSIGris, about the importance of digitisation in the Galician primary sector, in line with the objectives of Galicia's Smart Specialisation Strategy (RIS3), and what their time at the BBFood accelerator meant for them.

What is oSIGris?

Osigris is a company created in 2018 with the aim of facilitating the digitisation of the agricultural and livestock sector. To achieve this, we created a platform with a mobile app and web, with which to digitise the day-to-day running of farms and comply with legal requirements.

Who is your precision farming solution for?

Our tool, with its versatility and ability to connect in real time, is aimed at farmers, technicians and cooperatives themselves. We focus a great deal on small and medium-sized enterprises.

What are the practical applications of your software?

The main practical application is the field notebook. By law, all farmers have to fill in a field notebook in which they must record the actions carried out on their farm.

The information to enter includes plots of land, crops, machinery, etc... Of particular importance are the phytosanitary and fertiliser treatments they carry out, for which oSIGris has an interactive table that indicates the conditions under which the treatments must be carried out.

In addition, a Spanish Royal Decree is expected to be published which will make it compulsory to carry out the field notebook digitally, and of course, oSIGris will be one of the tools with which this can be done, because we are already working on the connection with the Ministry.

What has your market penetration been like?

Although the project was launched in 2018, oSIGris did not launch its first marketable product until mid-2020, at which point the commercialisation phase began.

In just 2 years since we began marketing, oSIGris has already attracted more than 60 clients, including large national groups such as the AN Group.

Although without a doubt, we have had the greatest implementation and welcome in Galician territory, being the benchmark software in digitisation for companies such as Horsal or Cooperativa Xallas.

You offer a free application, so what is the business model?

OSIGris offers several packages. When registering, we offer a free trial, but for a complete digitisation of the farms it is necessary to purchase the Premium version.

Our business model is based on recurring subscriptions from our customers for the use of the software.

How does it help an entrepreneur to be part of the BFFood accelerator?

We consider BFFood to be a very important source of support for any business in its start-up phase. In our case, it provided us with excellent business training, with various seminars given by experts, as well as mentoring from leading companies in the sector.

What is the state of digitisation in the primary sector and how does a small company like yours help to improve these figures?

We believe that the primary sector, by its nature, is one of the sectors that is having the hardest time making the famous digital transformation.

Companies like oSIGris, with their solutions, dedication and personal attention, help small and medium-sized companies in many cases to make that push towards digital transformation.

You have a grant from the Xunta de Galicia, what will this support allow you to do?

The aid granted by the Xunta was a major support in the implementation of our business plan, as it allowed us to continue developing the main product, oSIGris, by means of new functions and modules.

It also allowed us to develop two new algorithms for disease prediction and crop prediction that will be up and running by the end of the year.

It also allowed us to create a new brand, called ROVIGUS, which focuses on information processing through visual maps and statistics, mainly aimed at large corporations.

What are the company's future plans?

oSIGris' plans are to continue with the constant growth it has had until now, establishing itself as the benchmark for software in Galicia, and to conquer more and more territories throughout Spain.

In addition, for 2024 we are studying the possibility of internationalisation, focusing initially on Latin American countries.
