Since this autumn, Galicia is home to the first experimental wind farm for self-consumption solutions to be launched in Spain, promoted by Norvento, a company from Lugo.

This experimental wind farm, located in the municipality of A Pastoriza (Lugo), is part of Norvento Enerxía's strategic plan linking the development of new wind farms with the consolidation and growth of the technological and industrial project in the field of renewable generation and energy storage. The project seeks to reduce our country's technological dependence with new products for energy generation and storage.

This park is part of the essential infrastructure to develop these technologies which, according to María Luz Lozano, Sustainability and Brand Director at Norvento, "will be key to decarbonisation, renewable production, self-consumption, both for small and large consumers, and lower energy prices".

The energy production of the experimental farm will be used to technologically validate the turbine designs in the 750 to 900 kW range, test the wind turbines developed and manufactured by Norvento in the 100 to 900 kW range and the hybridisation of the farm by means of the energy storage system contained in batteries, called NBESS. This system is a product developed and manufactured by Norvento that, through a modular configuration, seeks to meet the needs of storage and management of electric power flows in isolated systems, distribution networks, electric vehicle superchargers, industries or renewable generation plants.

In addition, Norvento's Sustainability and Brand Director, María Luz Lozano, explains that "this is an ideal scenario for the installation of NBESS", the containerised energy storage system with batteries designed and manufactured by the company from Lugo. It is a system that, she explains, meets the challenge of renewable energy production cycles, allowing energy to be stored when there is a surplus to be used if there is no sun or wind. This device will also be installed in the experimental park, thus achieving its hybridisation by combining energy production with electric storage in batteries.

At the same time, the energy produced will also be fed into the grid to be used by consumers, coming from a renewable and decarbonised source.

The experimental wind farm is located in the municipality of A Pastoriza in the province of Lugo, a site that has the appropriate wind resource to test these sizes of wind turbines and thus validate the turbine designs in the range that are being carried out.

The park will allow the company to install and test different renewable energy production technologies over the next few years. This means continuing with Norvento's sustained and future commitment to R&D&I, through a technological and industrial project deeply rooted in Galicia to generate quality employment in our environment.

The company is currently positioning itself globally with projects that seek to contribute to the development of renewable energies, energy independence, self-consumption and energy storage, such as those being carried out in the Caribbean, the Azores or in electrical distribution networks.
