The Galician company's project to expand and modernize its facilities in Lugo is expected to mobilize 10 million euros and has been declared a Priority Business Initiative by the Xunta de Galicia

Novafrigsa belongs to the Coren group from Ourense, Spain's leading agri-food cooperative, since its acquisition of the Frigsa plant in 1995. Today it is the headquarters of its beef processing center and ham dryers. There, Coren channels all the beef production from its farms, the production of cold cuts and cooked meats, as well as the ham dryer with a capacity to produce more than 700,000 pieces per year. These facilities, located in Coeses (Lugo), have a covered surface area of 32,000 m2, making it the largest beef industry in Galicia, with a capacity for 100,000 cattle per year.

The Xunta de Galicia has declared the project for the improvement and modernization of the plant a Priority Business Initiative, which is expected to mobilize investments of 10 million euros, and which is estimated to generate around 100 direct and indirect jobs.

The project includes the construction of a new industrial building. The battery of improvements planned for its facilities also includes the acquisition of machinery, equipment and software that will enable the intelligent management of the plant's processing system, which will result in an increase in Novafrigsa's productivity and an improvement in the quality of the products it offers to the consumer.

By automating the cutting line, product classification, storage and picking, Coren seeks to position itself at the leading level in Europe and transform the industry into an intelligent organization.

Priority Business Initiative

The declaration of Priority Business Initiative gives the project priority status in the completion of the procedures within the competence of the regional administration, as well as the monitoring and promotion of the procedures by the General Secretariat of Industry in collaboration with the Doing Business Office.

The project is added to other priority business initiatives already declared. Among them, Cortizo (Padrón), Albo (Salvaterra de Miño), Oviganic (Monforte de Lemos), Sogama (Vilanova de Arousa), Agroamb Prodalt (Castro de Rei), Cafés Candelas (Lugo) or Kern Pharma (Monforte de Lemos).
