Until 14 June, the call for support is open for contracting, among others, legal or technical services to improve energy planning

The Galicia Energy Agenda 2030, launched by the Xunta de Galicia, foresees an investment of more than 630 million euros to promote renewable energies, energy efficiency and the circular economy in the coming years, with the aim of making Galicia a carbon neutral region by 2050. In this context, the regional government, through the Galician Energy Institute (Inega), has opened a call for support aimed at energy planning for local authorities and energy communities in Galicia.

The aim of this planning is none other than to encourage joint energy purchasing and promote a new model based on saving, efficiency and sustainability.

What kind of projects are eligible?

The call for proposals includes two main lines of support. The first of these focuses on the energy planning of local councils or groups of local councils. Specifically, it supports the contracting of legal or technical services to improve energy planning and the contracting of energy supplies for local entities.

A strategic study must be prepared for this supply, including promoting energy savings, together with a legal analysis and the implementation of a centralised energy procurement process.

In addition, the call also provides for energy planning for energy communities that are already established or in the process of being established. In this case, it supports contracting technical or legal assistance services to define the necessary energy infrastructures and the definition, drafting or extension of the statutes that govern or will govern the operation and management of the energy community from the moment it is set up.

Applicants can choose the companies that provide advice, but to assist in facilitating contact between applicants and suppliers, Inega has this list of companies interested in providing energy planning services to local authorities and energy communities.

Amount and intensity of help

The maximum credit, depending on the type of action, will be 500,000 euros for energy planning for municipalities and 100,000 euros for energy communities.

The intensity of aid will depend on the number of local councils providing energy supplies to the centralised contract: 30% for local councils without groupings, 50% for groupings of 2 to 5 local councils and 70% for groupings of more than 6 local councils. It should be noted that the Galician Enterprising Local Councils will receive an additional 15% increase. A maximum aid of 15,000 euros per town council is established, which will be applied individually to each town council in the group.

In the case of energy communities, the intensity of the aid will be 80% of the eligible cost of the action with a maximum of 15,000 euros of aid per application.

Expenditure and investments made between 1 January and 30 September 2023 will be eligible. The deadline for applications is 14 June.
