Its objective is to join forces and advance Galicia's leadership in this area through the alliance of the Xunta de Galicia, technology and research centers, universities and the business sector

The new Galician Network of Quantum Technologies is made up of the Xunta, through the Regional Ministries of Economy, Industry and Innovation and Health, as well as Amtega, the three universities of the Galician university system, Cesga, the ICT Cluster, the Digital Innovation Hubs DIHGIGAL and DATAlife, the Gradiant technology center, the Fujitsu International Quantum Center and the Center for Photonic Technologies (Aephos).

Its objective is to establish a collaborative network that facilitates the development of a complete ecosystem of knowledge and industry around these technologies, improves the positioning and visibility of Galicia's capabilities and promotes their adoption by the business community.

Specifically, the Network's tasks include:

  • Promote collaboration between agents in quantum technologies, enabling better use of capabilities and generating synergies.
  • Encourage joint participation in R&D projects.
  • Coordinate infrastructure and resources.
  • Coordinate communication and dissemination actions.
  • Collaborate in the possible development of demand, prospective and technological observation studies.
  • Promote the required regulatory changes.
  • To teach specific tools and instruments for the development of these technologies.
  • Promote its use in Galicia's strategic economic sectors and the generation of specialized companies.
  • Promote the positioning of the Network outside Galicia.
  • Attract industry and human capital to our Community.
  • Coordinate with the education sector and other agents for specialized training.

This Network is part of the Quantum Technologies Pole of Galicia, launched in 2022, in which investments of more than 30 million euros are being made and in which more than 40 highly qualified direct jobs have already been created.

In addition, Galicia is the first Autonomous Community to have a high-capacity quantum computer at Cesga. Inaugurated on October 2, it is the most powerful quantum computer (32 cubits) installed in a public R&D&I institution in southern Europe. The infrastructure represents an investment of 13.9 million euros, financed by the Xunta de Galicia with funds from the React UE program of the Feder Galicia 2014-2020 operational program as part of its commitment to the digital transition of the productive system and to having the best research infrastructures.

The new quantum computer will allow companies, technology centers and research groups to improve their competitiveness and productivity by accessing a wide variety of applications that will transform their processes and improve their investment strategies, which will require qualified personnel.

In addition to the computer, the Quantum Communication Center of the University of Vigo and the International Quantum Center of Fujitsu in Galicia, the Galician participation in the Complementary Quantum Communication Plan and the first edition this year of the Interuniversity Master in Quantum.

The impact of these technologies will accelerate economic development in virtually all sectors, helping to create a more modern and innovative Galicia.
