The success of Alibós is based on product quality, circular economy and constant innovation in products and processes

Alibós is an SME with more than 50 years of history, located in Monterroso, dedicated to the production, processing and marketing of peeled and deep-frozen chestnuts. It is currently one of the main chestnut processing companies in Europe.

They have more than 300 hectares of modern chestnut plantations in rural areas near the factory, all of them with organic production and Protected Geographical Indication "Galician Chestnut". In addition, through its subsidiary company Soutos Sativa, they provide all the necessary agricultural services for the production of chestnuts, from training and advice, to the commercialization of the plant or the care and harvesting of the fruit.

Alibós products are intended for industrial customers, catering and large-scale distribution. They process the product in a safe and totally natural way, obtaining a completely peeled, raw and deep-frozen chestnut that is exported to international markets. They produce products derived from chestnuts: flour, puree, marron glacé, canned with syrup, canned in natural...

Innovation and circular economy

Innovation is a fundamental pillar of the company's policy. In recent years, they have developed several projects in fields such as the valorization of waste and by-products of the process, new ingredients and functional products, allergen-free and for sensitive populations, characterization of varieties and prevention of chestnut tree diseases.

Their commitment and commitment to zero organic waste is key. For example, they use chestnut shells as fuel in their biomass boiler; they compost combustion ashes and wet shells, applying them as natural fertilizer in their own plantations; and they collaborate with local companies to produce organic fertilizers. On the other hand, the damaged fruits are marketed frozen for animal feed and the solid fraction obtained from the water purification process is dried and used as chestnut flour for animal feed.

Reducing packaging waste, recycling water in the process, energy efficiency and renewable energies are also important factors in its recycling and circular economy policy.

Their innovative vocation has allowed them to differentiate themselves from the competition, give added value to the product and offer new opportunities to the Galician countryside, also contributing to the conservation of chestnut trees and groves as part of the cultural and natural heritage of Galicia.
