New mixed company Recursos de Galicia is born
In order to take advantage of the opportunity offered by Galicia's natural resources, the Xunta has promoted the creation and foundation of a new mixed company, whose objective is to turn the Galician community into a key region for the energy transition that Europe is undergoing, guaranteeing that the benefits from the exploitation of these resources will be shared collectively among the Galician people.
Recursos de Galicia is a public-private company, pioneer in Spain, created to maximize the impact on the territory of the value generated by natural resources, the competitiveness of energy prices and the decarbonization of the economy.
The new joint venture is an unprecedented initiative in the area. With the Xunta as a majority partner with 30% of the shares, it also incorporates some thirty companies that support more than 20,000 direct jobs and contribute almost 11,000 million euros per year to the autonomous region's Gross Domestic Product.
Among the companies participating in Recursos Galicia are Abanca, Finsa, Megasa, Valtalia, Copasa, Gesuga, the Nogar Group, Pérez Rumbao, Jealsa, Revi, Profand, Gadisa, Ence, Exlabesa, ARP Global, AIN Active, Severiano, Intaf, Genesal, Industrial Recense, Mecanizados Acebrón, Cover Global, Edigal, Tecdesoft, Ertec Iberia, Integria Energía Empresas, Eroxona, Sertogal, Twinleads, Wind1000, Epifanio Campo, Aceites Abril and Megaro Foods.
The company is open to the participation of any company, whatever its size, or local administration that wishes to join the specific projects it will develop.
The Xunta de Galicia will contribute with a progressive disbursement of 30 million euros until 2027 and its participation is articulated through Impulsa Galicia.
Functions
Resources of Galicia seeks to ensure that energy development is equitable and results in the progress of Galicia and its economic fabric or, in other words, that the benefits of the use of natural resources remain in the territory, while increasing energy sovereignty.
The company will participate directly in green energy generation projects, the exploitation of mineral wealth or initiatives that require water concessions.
Its role will not be to act as just any market operator, but will seek to be a reference and a guide of good practices for other social agents, ensuring that energy projects bring benefits to the local communities with which they share territory. It will also ensure that they translate into more jobs for local companies, while promoting self-consumption from renewable sources and energy efficiency.
The company Recursos de Galicia is along the same lines as the future Law of Natural Resources of Galicia, a pioneering regulation aimed at changing the paradigm of the regulation of energy projects, such as the fact that they must also include a study of their socioeconomic impact and the measures proposed by the developer to compensate them. These include the possibility of incorporating local investors or workers, the use of R&D&I produced in Galicia, the reinvestment of profits in social and patrimonial actions or the reduction of energy costs for the people in the surrounding area.
