The new Catalogue of Natural Resources, developed with the aim of promoting and disseminating the Galician mining potential, and in particular, what can be considered of a strategic nature, can now be consulted on the website of the Materioteca de Galicia. Composed of 122 products, this catalogue is the result of the joint initiative of the Official Mining Chamber of Galicia and the Galician Innovation Agency, which was presented on 13 December at the headquarters of the Materioteca de Galicia, the CIS Technology and Design in Ferrol.

The Director General of Energy Planning and Natural Resources, Pablo Fernández Vila, explained during the presentation that the new catalogue of Natural Resources arises in response to three challenges: the enhancement of Galicia's geological-mining resources, the transition towards a new model of interrelation between the Administration and the mining sector and the improvement of sustainability through Public Procurement of Innovation, in the same way as other actions that have been recently promoted such as the launch of the office for the attraction, coordination and monitoring of European funds or the SmartMin Tech project, aimed at transforming the Galician mining sector and addressing environmental and circular economy challenges through Public Procurement of Innovation. 

This is a project that favours synergies and the valorisation of resources that until now had no application, also contributing to the sustainability of the industry and its circularity. The work was based on the preparation of product and by-product files for mineral resources, the strategic classification of tailings with potential added value, the design of a map of available resources in the mining sector and a graphic image for the project. 

The initiative, in which the collaboration of the Galician Innovation Agency and the CIS Technology and Design should be highlighted, is part of the Agenda for the Promotion of Sustainable Mining in Galicia 2030 and includes more than 120 products of mineral origin.

Materioteca de Galicia

The Galician Natural Resources Catalogue will become part of the Materioteca, a space for the dissemination of new materials that combines a physical exhibition at the CIS Technology and Design and a digital archive of classified samples to facilitate the transfer of materials technologies to the business fabric and stimulate intersectoral innovation. The Materioteca offers specialised services according to the user's profile, supporting design, engineering and architecture professionals in the search for materials needed for their projects; helping researchers and technologists to give visibility to their materials to facilitate their transfer to industry; and assisting business innovation managers in locating suitable materials for their innovation challenges.
