This is the tenth edition of these awards, which seek to recognize applied research work and successful cases of knowledge transfer that serve as a reference for the research ecosystem and the business community.

Since its first edition in 2015, the Technology Transfer Awards in Galicia have distributed more than 185,000 euros in recognition of the best practices in knowledge transfer from research organizations to the productive fabric, applied research work, successful cases of knowledge transfer and business success stories of technology implementation.

The initiative, organized by the Royal Galician Academy of Sciences (RAGC) with the support of the Xunta de Galicia, arises from the premise that the appropriate transfer of knowledge from research organizations to the productive fabric is considered a priority strategy at a global level to increase the socioeconomic development of any territory. These are processes that should be recognized through success stories and should be transferred to the public so that they can serve as a reference for both researchers and Galician entrepreneurs.

2024 Awards
In this tenth edition, the awards are divided into two different categories:

  • Francisco Guitián Ojea" Award, which seeks to reward an applied research work to recognize the creation, by a research group, of a technology that has not yet been transferred and from which clear applications for the socioeconomic development of Galicia are derived. The work must be unpublished or published after 2021. In addition to the research work itself, the presentation of potential indicators of the quality of the work (impact indexes, citations received, etc.) will be valued.
  • Fernando Calvet Prats" Award, destined to the creator of the transferred technology, for a successful case of technology transfer promoted by a research group, as a result of collaboration with a company, being valid any mechanism of transfer from the group to the company (patent acquisition, joint project, spin-off, etc.). In addition to the project, evidence of the success of the transfer will be taken into account (transfer contracts, patents, royalty payments, sales, impact on turnover, etc.).

Both categories are each endowed with a prize amounting to 5.5,000 euros and an accrediting diploma and may be presented to all personnel attached to research centers located in Galicia, including technology centers, including research groups from universities, health foundations, public and private research organizations at state or regional level ... In neither of the two categories may be awarded research groups or companies that have already received the award in any of the three previous editions of the contest, as well as academics and academics of the RAGC.
