Towards a new model of industrial energy sustainability
The contributions, amounting to 7 million euros, will be financed by the Just Transition Fund and will help mobilize 15.5 million euros while contributing to the creation or maintenance of more than 150 jobs.
In this sense, priority will be given to job creation in the municipalities most affected by the closure of the thermal power plants of Las Pontes and Meirama (Cerceda), with special support for the generation of jobs for groups of interest.
The published grants will result in annual energy savings of more than 3,100 MWh and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 3,300 tons of CO2 per year, the equivalent of 165,000 trees.
The support, which can reach up to 3 million euros per project, is up to 45% of the eligible investment in the case of large companies' projects, while in the case of SMEs it will be 45% or 55% depending on the percentage of emissions reduction justified.
These grants, managed by the Energy Institute of Galicia (Inega), seek to encourage the ecological transformation of industrial activity towards a low-carbon economy and its competitiveness in a global market, reducing energy consumption and promoting the introduction of the best available technology.
At the same time, this aid, which is part of the Galician Climate Change and Energy Strategy 2050 and the Galician Energy Agenda 2030, contributes to reactivate and boost the economy of the province after the closure of the thermal power plants.
The application period will remain open until July 22, 2024.
