The Xunta Xunta will support with 18 M€ the auxiliary companies of the automotive sector to be more competitive in the current context of energy transition

Soon the Xunta will launch a new line of grants, with 18 million euros, to help auxiliary companies in the automotive sector to be more competitive and adapt to the transition process that this industry is undergoing towards a more sustainable mobility, marked by the extension of the electric vehicle.

This is a key sector for Galicia, made up of auxiliary companies or automobile components that account for 25,000 jobs in the Community, and which faces the great challenge of adapting to European regulations that establish 2035 as the deadline for there to be no polluting vehicles on the market.

This new program of aids contributes to face the expenses of the companies this year, with a first line of supports destined to attend both the expenses in equipment and the elaboration of projects for the future. The supports, in non-competitive competition, will cover up to 70% of these eligible expenses, executed from January 1st until the date of presentation of the application, with a maximum of 300,000 euros. Among the initiatives that will be able to receive grants are the purchase of machinery, the reforms of the production ships or the expenses of consultancy to advance in this process of transition.

Likewise, the program includes a second line of support of between 35% and 55% of the costs of the actions of the companies for the development of energy efficiency and renewable projects up to a maximum of 700,000 €. In this case, they are focused on actions such as the implementation of thermal or electrical energies (photovoltaic or mini-wind panels) or making energy efficiency improvements in the facilities.

The automotive sector is facing one of the biggest transformations in its history, in which the just transition and electrification are central points of the paradigm shift. The European Union has set 2035 as the date for new cars and vans on the market to be zero emission. In this context, the Xunta reinforces its commitment to a sector declared strategic for the economy of Galicia, looking for the automotive companies to be more efficient, safe and competitive.
