REFRIGERATION COMPANIES
This catalog includes the procedures necessary for the incorporation and start-up of business initiatives related to refrigeration company activities.
A refrigeration company is considered to be a natural or legal person who, as an organized economic activity, carries out the execution, commissioning, maintenance, repair, modification and dismantling of refrigeration installations within the scope of the Safety Regulations for Refrigeration Installations and their complementary technical instructions, approved by Royal Decree 552/2019, of September 27.
The following installations are excluded from the catalog application:
- The refrigeration installations corresponding to air, sea and land means of transport, which will be governed by the provisions of the international and national safety standards applicable to them and their complementary technical standards.
- Secondary systems used in air conditioning installations for thermal comfort conditions of people in buildings, which will be governed by the provisions of the Regulation on thermal installations in buildings.
- Compact refrigeration systems (portable air conditioning systems, domestic refrigerators and freezers, etc.) with refrigerant charge less than:
- 5 kg refrigerant group L1
- 5 kg refrigerant of groups L2 and L3
Before starting their activities as refrigeration companies, individuals or legal entities wishing to establish themselves in Spain must submit to the competent body of the autonomous community where they establish themselves a responsible declaration in which the owner of the company or legal representative of the company declares that it complies with the requirements of the applicable regulations, that it has the documentation that accredits it, that it undertakes to maintain them during the term of the activity and that it is responsible for the execution of the installations being carried out in accordance with the standards and requirements established in the aforementioned complementary technical instruction.
The competent regional ministry for industry will assign, ex officio, an identification number to the company that submitted a responsible declaration.
Once this process is completed, the company is authorized and can immediately carry out the activity, although it may be subject to the corresponding inspection tasks to verify the veracity of the declaration by providing the documentation supporting the declaration.
